Julia with her boys by Gabi Iazzetti

Julia Manchik

I capture families so parents can be in their favorite photographs and help take the pressure off to document it all themselves.

Every photo session is a time capsule of this season in your life, never to be repeated again. One day they're crawling, the next they walking. One photo session they're friendly, the next they're hiding behind your legs. Next time you're in front of a camera, there may be a new family member, a new home, a different hairstyle, definitely a new age. I understand the joy and heartache in this and want these seasons to stay in your memory.

My photography is shaped by a formal training in graphic design, 15 years of experience documenting weddings, and three of my own boys to chase with a camera. I mix intentional compositions with candid moments that convey a story or feeling. I document people the way I want to be appear in photographs. I document families the way I want mine documented. It's hard to predict how a shoot with kids will go, and I do my best to make photos enjoyable and worth the effort. They really are worth the effort.

Some things I enjoy: a coffee shop with good pastries, rummaging estate sales, hearing birth stories, camping and cooking outdoors, decorating my home, working in my garden, being near water, photo walks while traveling, throwing a party (especially for others), beating my score in something, beautifully designed books and magazines, riding a bike in the city, live music in small venues, charcuterie picnics, soaking in any form of hot water, getting somewhere faster than Google maps said I would, making new friends.

Based in Gig Harbor, Washington (Seattle/Tacoma area) and available to travel.

I look forward to hearing from you!
